Rate Caps

When you select the Rate Cap navigation link after selecting an existing car policy on the Car Policies page, the Rate Caps screen appears. Use rate caps to determine maximum in-policy and out-of-policy rates. You can enter one rate cap for each location.

To add a rate cap, click the add rate cap link on the Rate Caps page to open the Add Rate Cap screen.

Notes on Applying Rate Caps

Below are several notes about applying rate caps under various circumstances.

Rate Cap Order

Universal Policy applies rate caps first by city/airport. If you have not specified city/airport rate caps, Universal Policy applies the state/province rate cap. If you have not specified a state/province rate cap, Universal Policy applies the country rate cap. The worldwide cap is applied only to locations where no city/airport, state/province, or country rate cap has been specified.

When two city/airport areas overlap, the rate cap of the city closest to the location is applied.

Rate Caps and Other Policy Options

Any rate caps configured are automatically used to determine maximum in-policy rates regardless of the settings specified on the Policy Options and Exclusions page.

Rate Caps over Multiple Nights

If there are multiple daily rates when a car rental period spans multiple days, Universal Policy averages all rates over the time period to determine the daily rate to compare against rate cap/rate maximum configurations.

Example:

A rate cap is configured at $240.

A booking has the first day at $240, the second day at $240, and the third day at $300.

Universal Policy averages these for a daily rate of $260.

The booking is marked as out-of-policy because the average daily rate of $260 is greater than the configured rate cap of $240.
